This guide puts every Sterling door closer and floor spring on one page, with the figures each model is published against. It restates the product pages; for the sizing method, the guide to EN power sizes explains how width and mass set the size.

The range at a glance

Ten models: six surface-mounted closers, two concealed closers and two floor springs. Weight and width are limits a door must sit within; the floor springs also have a minimum door weight.

How to read the table

ISI to IS 3564:1995 under BIS licence CM/L 7700126309: all eight door closers. CE is per model: DC 1800 LA, DC 1820, DC 2000, DC 2600 and DC 2900. Floor springs: BIS certified under CM/L 7700249814. No CE marking is stated for the DC 1500, DC 2700 or DC 2800; do not write it into a specification. The cycle figure is a lab test result, not a service life; the guide to ISI marking and IS 3564 explains what the ISI mark and the cycle test cover.

Surface-mounted door closers

All six share an extruded aluminium alloy housing, a rack and pinion mechanism, two-speed control and universal mounting for left and right hand doors; all except the DC 2600 are also listed for on-door or on-frame installation. All are published for wooden and aluminium doors, PU painted, in silver, black, brown, gold and rose gold; the full list is on the Sterling door closers page.

DC 1500: doors up to 45 kg

Doors up to 45 kg and 900 mm, lever arm adjustable across EN 1-2. The mounting holes are set closer together for the limited space of an aluminium section. ISI marked; no CE or cycle figure is published. Pelmet arm (DC-1510 PA) and hold-open (DC-1520 HPA) versions are listed. See the DC 1500 product page.

DC 1800 LA: doors up to 60 kg, lever arm

Doors up to 60 kg and 950 mm, lever arm adjustable across EN 2-3. ISI and CE marked, 4,00,000 cycles. Front control speed adjustment is optional, and the DC-1810 PA is the pelmet arm version. See the DC 1800 LA product page.

DC 1820: doors up to 60 kg, hold-open pelmet arm

The same limits as the DC 1800 LA, with a hold-open pelmet arm and front control adjustment as standard. EN 2-3, ISI and CE marked, 4,00,000 cycles. No hold-open angle range is printed, so ask Sterling to confirm the angle before specifying it. See the DC 1820 product page.

DC 2000: doors up to 80 kg, lever arm

Doors up to 80 kg, 1100 mm wide and 2100 mm high, lever arm adjustable across EN 3-4. Front control speed adjustment, ISI and CE marked, 5,00,000 cycles. See the DC 2000 product page.

DC 2600: doors up to 80 kg, hold-open pelmet arm

The same limits, marking and cycle test as the DC 2000, with an aluminium extruded pelmet arm instead of a lever arm. Closing force is set by preloading the arm, and the inbuilt hold-open holds the door from 10 to 90 degrees. See the DC 2600 product page.

DC 2900: doors up to 100 kg, heavy-duty lever arm

Doors up to 100 kg and 1100 mm, EN 4-5 on the adjustable lever arm, front control adjustment, 5,00,000 cycles, and designed to withstand heavy wind pressure. ISI and CE marked. Pelmet arm (DC-2910 PA HD) and hold-open (DC-2920 HPA HD) versions are listed. See the DC 2900 product page.

DC 2000 vs DC 2600

On paper the two differ in the arm and what comes with it. Every published limit, the L202 x W40 x H55 mm body, front control adjustment, ISI and CE marking and the 5,00,000 cycle test all match.

A lever arm, as on the DC 2000, is the two-piece articulated arm that stands out from the door when closed; the force is set on the arm. A pelmet arm, as on the DC 2600, runs in a channel along the frame head, so it sits flat; the force is set by preloading it. The DC 2600 also holds open from 10 to 90 degrees; the DC 2000 has no hold-open. The DC 2000 is listed for on-door or on-frame installation; the DC 2600 page does not carry that line.

Choose the DC 2600 if the door needs holding open or the arm must sit flat against the frame; otherwise the DC 2000 does the same job with a plain lever arm.

Concealed door closers

Both concealed models are housed in the door leaf. Both are for wooden doors only, offered in the same five finishes, with two-speed control for both sides, a leak-proof design and left or right hand opening; closing force is set by preloading the arm. Both are ISI marked; no CE marking is stated for either. Surface-mounted or concealed covers the installation and servicing trade-offs.

DC 2700: doors up to 60 kg, from 32 mm thick

Doors up to 60 kg and 970 mm, wooden leaves from 32 mm thick, EN 2-3, 3,00,000 cycles. The DC-2720 HPA version holds the door open from 10 to 90 degrees. See the DC 2700 product page.

DC 2800: doors up to 80 kg, from 38 mm thick

Doors up to 80 kg and 970 mm, wooden leaves from 38 mm thick, EN 2-4, 4,00,000 cycles. The DC-2820 HPA version holds from 10 to 90 degrees. Specify against the 970 mm width even where EN 4 would allow a wider door. See the DC 2800 product page.

Floor springs

Floor springs sit in the floor under the door, the usual arrangement for frameless glass. Both are published for wooden and glass doors up to 1100 mm wide and 2100 mm high, hold open at 90 degrees, have double action to prevent door and wall damage, two-speed control, and left-right, front-back and top-bottom adjustment inside the box. Both are BIS certified under CM/L 7700249814, 5,00,000 cycles, with no EN size printed. Floor spring or door closer covers when to use one; both are on the Sterling floor springs page.

FS 1000: doors of 60 to 80 kg

Rated for 60 to 80 kg doors. Cast iron housing in a steel box, 3 kg gross. See the FS 1000 product page.

FS 3000: doors of 90 to 120 kg

Rated for 90 to 120 kg doors, with a load adjustment screw for that range. Aluminium pressure die-cast housing with a black powder-coated, zinc-plated tin box, cam action body, 3.5 kg gross. For a door between 80 and 90 kg, ask Sterling which unit to use. See the FS 3000 product page.

Questions

What is the difference between the Sterling DC 2000 and DC 2600?

The arm. Both take doors up to 80 kg and 1100 mm wide, across EN 3-4. The DC 2000 has a lever arm; the DC 2600 has a hold-open pelmet arm that holds from 10 to 90 degrees.

Which Sterling door closers are ISI marked?

All eight: the DC 1500, DC 1800 LA, DC 1820, DC 2000, DC 2600, DC 2700, DC 2800 and DC 2900, to IS 3564:1995 under CM/L 7700126309. Floor springs are BIS certified under CM/L 7700249814 instead.

Which Sterling model suits a door over 80 kg?

The DC 2900 door closer, for doors up to 100 kg and 1100 mm wide at EN 4-5, or the FS 3000 floor spring, for 90 to 120 kg. For a floor spring on an 80 to 90 kg door, ask Sterling.
